Bryan Mayer Band @ Salt

August 23, 2019 | 9:30 pm - August 24, 2019 | 12:30 am

With his towering height and powerful voice, Bryan Mayer, is making a BIG impact on the country music scene. A North Carolina native, the six foot seven singer/songwriter began his journey in music when he was 13. The son of a US Marine Corp Colonel and a Navy nurse, while stationed in Quantico, VA, Bryan was tapped by his middle school teacher, Dr. Drake, to play upright bass in the school band, for his already impressive height of 6’1” in the seventh grade. Although Bryan enjoyed playing the bass, the lore of the front man aspect and realizing he could sing led him to pick up the guitar. After some impromptu performances at keg parties at his house in college at ECU, Bryan ended up on the Carolina sands of Oak Island, NC. It was there that he started crafting his style and gutting it out in any bar, restaurant, or private party that would hire him. “Everyone would always tell me that I was going to make it someday. Some wondered why I hadn’t already,” says Mayer. “I knew this was what I was put on earth to do.”

Ryan Cain @ The Trading Post

August 24, 2019 | 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Ryan is a Country Music Singer, but plays a verity of styles of music. He has been involved in music since he was born. His father being the choir leader at their church as a small child and multiple family members playing various instruments and singing, he was bound to catch the music bug eventually. It was at 6 years old his parents realized, music was in his blood. Constantly watching a recorded VHS tape of a live concert Garth Brooks did for NBC. When the tape would end, he rewound it, and watched it again and again. Ryan received his first guitar when he was in 5th grade and taught himself how to play. He then started singing in the church choir and toured with different Southern Gospel Quartets as a teenager. Now married with 4 children, Ryan has decided to follow his dream and start a career in the country music business.

Down East Folk Arts Society Concert - Sally Barris

September 12, 2019 | 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
In keeping with our mission “To Build Community Through Music”, the Down East Folk Arts Society will once again be bringing World Class Singers/Songwriters to Craven County and the Crystal Coast of North Carolina this Fall. We are pleased to announce our 2019 Fall Concert Series which will  begin on September 11, 2019 and run each subsequent month through November 8, 2019.

Recognized as one of the finest of the many singer-songwriters in the folky, Americana genre today, Sally Barris holds her own as both an evocative singer and striking songwriter. Ever since she moved to Nashville from her Minnesota home to dedicate her life to songwriting, Sally has led a storied career. She’s had songs recorded by Kathy Mattea, Trisha Yearwood and Martina McBride, received a Grammy nomination and is now making a living as a traveling performer. She often lends her talents to a trio called the Waymores, joining hit songwriters Don Henry and Tom Kimmel for fun-filled and music-thrilled shows. For September’s performances, Sally plays by her lonesome using her sensitive finger-picking style to accompany her sweet soprano with a strong selection of original material.

Down East Folk Arts Society presents Sally at Clawson’s (upstairs). Dinner and drinks available before the show.

All shows are free but, donations are suggested.

Down East Folk Arts Society Concert - Jane Kramer

November 7, 2019 | 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
In keeping with our mission “To Build Community Through Music”, the Down East Folk Arts Society will once again be bringing World Class Singers/Songwriters to Craven County and the Crystal Coast of North Carolina this Fall. We are pleased to announce our 2019 Fall Concert Series which will  begin on September 11, 2019 and run each subsequent month through November 8, 2019.

Lauded by UK music reviewer Three Chords and the Truth as sounding like she was “…born to gypsy poets and raised by Emmylou Harris,” Asheville, North Carolina songstress Jane Kramer has garnered international recognition for the sultry, heartrending originality of her vocals and for the heavy-hitting lyrical eloquence of her songwriting. With deep roots in the musical traditions, culture and lore of her beloved Appalachia, Kramer’s songs are introspective, gracefully gritty and fiercely memorable. They elegantly sweep listeners down the gravel roads and southern coastal highways, midnight truck stops and lonely motel rooms of “hard learning” and lead home to the wooded Blue Ridge Mountains with moving acceptance of our flawed human experience. Kramer’s live performances are equally as poignant and engaging; rich with accessible, warm, often hilarious storytelling and gracefully lifting the veil between audience and performer.

Down East Folk Arts Society presents Jane at St. Claires Coffee house at St. Francis by the Sea Church. Drinks available before the show.

All shows are free but, donations are suggested.

62nd Annual Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament

June 5, 2020 | 12:00 am - June 13, 2020 | 12:00 am

The 2020 Big Rock Tournament will take place June 5-13, 2020 in Morehead City. Among the largest and oldest sport fishing tournaments in the country, The Big Rock calls avid deep-sea fishermen to North Carolina’s Crystal Coast for a full week of angling and community celebration. Over the course of the last half-century, many boats have docked here, many tourists have gathered here, and many Morehead City natives have come and gone. Our mission has always stayed the same: to represent the sport fishing community as superbly as only Morehead City can!
