Beaufort Picture Show - Lady Bird

July 26, 2019 | 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Beaufort Picture Show is a non-profit organization formed to showcase a broad range of notable films that enrich lives, engage minds, and build community. Beaufort Picture Show is the premier destination for cinema and cultural events on the Crystal Coast.

The movie for this showing will be Lady Bird:

In Lady Bird, Greta Gerwig reveals herself to be a bold new cinematic voice with her directorial debut, excavating both the humor and pathos in the turbulent bond between a mother and her teenage daughter. Christine “Lady Bird” McPherson (Saoirse Ronan) fights against but is exactly like her wildly loving, deeply opinionated and strong-willed mom (Laurie Metcalf), a nurse working tirelessly to keep her family afloat after Lady Bird’s father (Tracy Letts) loses his job. Set in Sacramento, California in 2002, amidst a rapidly shifting American economic landscape, Lady Bird is an affecting look at the relationships that shape us, the beliefs that define us, and the unmatched beauty of a place called home.

Early show is at 5pm and the late who is at 8pm.

Rubich & Cain @ The Trading Post

July 31, 2019 | 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

New duo at The Trading Post: Rubich & Cain. Ryan Rubich stringer and singer, hailing from Houston TX and calling North Carolina home, he comes to us with nearly 20 years music education and experience in his wake that has kept him busy from coast to coast. It was at an open mic night here along The Crystal Coast where he met percussionist Jared Cain in the late Summer of 2018. Just before fall fell upon them, a Hurricane blew through the area and upset more than a few things. But the one thing Florence did not interrupt is the mission of these music-making friends. Though Cain has been banging out the beats around the area for a couple of years, his roots were nourished in Cleveland, Ohio. He came to our coast in 2004 by way of the military and started taking music more seriously in 2012 and has been playing professionally since. The combination of these two players brings a fresh burst of funky, folk, blues, rock music for fans to enjoy. With Rubich’s rich knowledge of jazz, blues and folk style and Cain’s comfort zone resting on all styles of rock and reggae, the duo plays off each other well.

Mikele Buck Band @ Salt

August 3, 2019 | 9:30 pm - August 4, 2019 | 12:00 am

The Voice 2018 contestant Mikele Buck was born in the Hills of West Virginia, where his family was steeped in the traditional music of the Appalachians. Playing drums in rock bands for most of his high school days, after graduation Mikele bought his first guitar. He started writing songs and playing local taverns, bars, and bonfire parties, testing his own songs out on friends and family. His original songs are a blend of all his musical influences, including Steve Earle, Garth Brooks, Travis Tritt and Red-Dirt artists like Randy Rodgers Band and Reckless Kelly. After returning from the Iraq war in 2005, Mikele went to Nashville to record his first CD and established his first band near Greenville NC. This band’s popularity grew and soon they were opening up for major acts such as Jason Aldean and Joe Nichols. From NC night clubs and fairs, the Mikele Buck Band began drawing record crowds of their own. His latest iTunes release has been pouring through car speakers all over the east…

Beaufort Pirate Invasion 2019

August 9, 2019 | 10:00 am - August 11, 2019 | 1:00 pm

The Beaufort Pirate Invasion is a reenactment of an event that happened in Beaufort, North Carolina, in 1747, when the town was caught up in a battle to defend itself from Spanish privateers. Blackbeard is also part of our local history and the wreck of QAR is here to prove it. Along with many other tales and legends of the Notorious Pirate and his alleged shenanigans in our area. This annual event was created in 1960 to highlight this unique and historical event of victory. The story unfolds on the waterfront at Taylor’s Creek, throughout town and around pirate encampments. Professional pirate re-enactors, villagers and merchants roam throughout town creating a historical and piratical presence for pirate enthusiasts of all ages to enjoy. Join us in celebrating our towns history and unique culture throughout the year by visiting Beaufort during one of our many local events and don’t miss the N.C. Maritime Museum and the Queen Anne’s Revenge exhibit which opened last spring and many other interesting things to see and do in NC’s Coolest Small Town.

Beaufort Picture Show - Woodstock

August 9, 2019 | 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Beaufort Picture Show is a non-profit organization formed to showcase a broad range of notable films that enrich lives, engage minds, and build community. Beaufort Picture Show is the premier destination for cinema and cultural events on the Crystal Coast.

The movie for this showing will be Woodstock:

This iconic musical documentary covers the three-day 1969 music festival on the property of Max Yasger’s farm that symbolized the late 1960s in terms of musical, social and political ideology of the era. American audiences are introduced to Ten Years After, featuring guitar great Alvin Lee. Jimi Hendix, The Who and Joe Cocker give riveting performances. As naked flower children romp, the New York freeway is closed because of traffic congestion. Music lovers leave their cars and travel on foot only survive torrential downpours of rain, food shortages and non-stop music. Jefferson Airplane gives the wake up call with their song “Volunteers Of America.” Crosby, Stills and Nash deliver a memorable performance. John Sebastian gives an impromptu set with a borrowed guitar from Tim Hardin. Santana, Sly and The Family Stone, Sha-Na-Na, Arlo Guthrie, Richie Havens and Joan Baez also appear. The movie did big box office business and a successful three record set sold millions of copies. The Grateful Dead, Credence Clearwater Revival and Janis Joplin performed but were not shown in the film. Beaufort Picture Show - Woodstock

August 9, 2019 | 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

The Dead’s Jerry Garcia recalled that it was the worst live show the band ever did, ironic for a band known for their spirited live performances.

Early show is at 5pm and the late who is at 8pm.

August 17, 2019 | 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

That’s right, there’s a caviar farm right here in Carteret County!

Marshallberg Farm is the largest producer of Russian Sturgeon caviar in the U.S.A., with capacity to produce up to 3 tons of caviar per year. Due to popular demand, the Down East facility will be holding a series of farm tours and caviar tastings.

The tour includes a guided walk amongst 40 indoor recirculating aquaculture tanks that teem with sturgeon and span some 54,000 square feet of building space. Following the tour, there will be a caviar and smoked sturgeon tasting and a chance to purchase products.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased online at www.marshallbergfarm.com. Spaces are limited.

62nd Annual Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament

June 5, 2020 | 12:00 am - June 13, 2020 | 12:00 am

The 2020 Big Rock Tournament will take place June 5-13, 2020 in Morehead City. Among the largest and oldest sport fishing tournaments in the country, The Big Rock calls avid deep-sea fishermen to North Carolina’s Crystal Coast for a full week of angling and community celebration. Over the course of the last half-century, many boats have docked here, many tourists have gathered here, and many Morehead City natives have come and gone. Our mission has always stayed the same: to represent the sport fishing community as superbly as only Morehead City can!
