Water Activities

With more than 85 miles of enticing coastline, it's no wonder that water plays such an important role in our culture and activities. Whether you find your passion on a board, on a boat or under the waves, the Crystal Coast offers incredible opportunities to enjoy the H20 that surrounds you. Dive in!

Surfers can find their breaks next to the major fishing piers on Bogue Banks or venture out to Cape Lookout National Seashore for unbridled waters.

Love to paddle? Whether you’re in a kayak or on a board, the calmer waters of Taylor’s Creek, White Oak River and Bogue Sound are just a few of the top places to drop in and enjoy. Nature-lovers are especially in luck with close-up encounters of wild horses, rare birds and other species along Shackleford Banks, the Rachel Carson Reserve, Croatan National Forest and more.

Plus – take to the air in one of the top untapped kiteboarding havens in the country. Expert kiters and novices can both enjoy the sport with a range of environments to match your expertise. Thinking of trying it out? Bogue Sound is particularly perfect for newbies, with warm, shallow waters for miles of safe instruction, while experienced kiters can hop out to Cape Lookout or Cedar Island for more wind in their sails.

Get a glimpse of all these activities in our first episode of Facing Waves, when BIC SUP ambassadors Casi Rynkowski and Matt Hite got in the water with some of the Crystal Coast’s top instructors and guides. You can find these and other rental suppliers and instructors HERE.
