Kindergarten Thanksgiving

9-11:30 am on November 4-7 & 11-14 on the Beaufort Historic Site. Similar to our Harvest Time, Kindergarten Thanksgiving is open for kindergarten classes. Children will visit the quaint Leffers Cottage to learn from Mr. Leffers and his family how they prepared for the winter months. Students will see open hearth cooking, butter churning, weaving and spinning and will have a lively conversation with Mr. Leffers himself! Reservations required. 252-728-5225

11th Annual Emerald Isle Christmas Parade

Emerald Isle Christmas Parade sponsored by the Emerald Isle Business Association and the Town of Emerald Isle will take place on Saturday, November 29th beginning at 3pm on Hwy 58, Emerald Drive.  Important note to all entrants: There will be only ONE Santa Claus in the parade and he will be riding in a float at the end.  All other Santa’s will be sent back to the North Pole!  Also, please join us after the parade for the official Christmas Tree Lighting at Merchant’s Park!  Enjoy free refreshments, as well as a holiday caroling sing-a-long as Santa Claus visits with the children.  To enter, contact Diane Schools at 252.354.2916.

3rd Annual Holiday Arts and Crafts Fair

On the Saturday after Thanksgiving, Emerald Isle Parks and Recreation will host our 3rd Annual Holiday Arts and Crafts Fair in the Gymnasium from 8 am - 6 pm. The Fair will feature all handmade or hand-authenticated items from local artisans and crafters. This is also the weekend of our annual Christmas Parade which is the kick-off to the holiday season here in Emerald Isle. Photos with Santa

2-9 pm. Emerald Isle Parks & Recreation will host a very special visitor; jolly Ol’ St. Nicholas at his “authentic beach shack”.  Professional photographer Jeff Pennell of Pennell’s Photography, Inc. will capture the smiles of your child or grandchild.  One day will be dedicated to photographs of your four legged, fur-children with the charming man in red.  The sitting fee for each of your pint-sized loved ones is just 5 cans of non-perishable food or a 5lb. bag of dog or cat food, additional donations are welcome.  Your professional photographs will be available for purchase online at www.jeffpennell.com.  The basic package starts at $29.95.  Santa Claus will be at his beach shack from 12-7 each day, but is available by appointment only.

Preregistration and a $10 non- refundable deposit is due at registration. Sitting times can be reserved by contacting Sarah McNally at Emerald Isle Parks & Recreation. Proceeds will benefit the Humane Society and Wounded Warriors. What a great time of year to give! 27th Annual Core Sound Decoy Festival

Location: Harkers Island Elementary School. Hours: Saturday 9am -5pm, Sunday 10am – 4pm. Admission: $8.00 daily, children under 12 free.  Sunday is Youth Day, and all children under 18 will receive free admission and door prizes! The Core Sound Decoy Festival has been a coastal tradition since 1988. Festival events include antique decoy exhibits, retriever demonstrations, children’s decoy painting, educational exhibits, duck calling competitions, head whittling contest, and a live decoy auction.  The decoy competition has many categories to suit nearly every carver, including IWCA Working Decoy, IWCA Gunning Shorebird, Canvas Decoy, Root Head, and the Duplin County Ducks Unlimited Competition (with a sizeable purchase award). There are also several youth divisions in the carving competition, and this year the Guild will be hosting the 2014 Young Guns Championship. Harkers Island Elementary School staff and volunteers dish out scrumptious food, and over 90 vendors spread their wares for shoppers who flock to the Festival. This event benefits the Core Sound Decoy Carver's Guild and Harkers Island Elementary School and is the area's largest off-season event.  Visit decoyguild.com for more information or join the Core Sound Decoy Carvers Guild on Facebook!

Crystal Coast Christmas Flotilla

5:30 pm. The Crystal Coast Christmas Flotilla features boats, yachts, oars, kayaks and commercial vessels decorated for the season.  The decorated boats can be seen at 5:30 p.m., on the Morehead City waterfront and at 6:15 p.m., on the Beaufort waterfront.  Boats may register to participate in the Flotilla by phone or mail, and until noon on Saturday, December 5, at the North Carolina Maritime Museum Store.   All decorated boats are judged and prizes for excellence and creativity are awarded at the Awards Party after the Flotilla in the Harvey W.
