The Wahoo Challenge

This is a one day, just for fun tournament with 10% of the entries being donated to the Crystal Coast Hospice House in memory of David Albanese.

Boats may not leave the inlet prior to 5:00am and fishing can start anytime thereafter

Weigh in on the Morehead City waterfront next to Jack’s Waterfront Bar at the end of 6th Street
Weigh in scales open from 3:30pm until 6pm.
Cash awards paid out on Saturday October 19th just after weigh ins.

Youth Fishing Palooza

Join Morehead City Parks and Recreation Department for a Kids Fishing Palooza! This event is for kids ages 3-15 years-old. Prizes will be awarded for first fish caught, most creative fishing hat, largest fish by weight and smallest fish by weight. Bring your own pole or borrow one of ours (Limited Availability). Bait provided or bring your own. Registration at 8:30 AM • Registration Fee: $2.00.

2nd Annual Diamond City Gala Art and Music Festival

Diamond City Gala is a non-profit organization annually celebrating local history, art and music while raising money to support our local community. Diamond City Gala is named after the historic village called Diamond City which was a fishing and whaling village on Shackleford Banks. It was called Diamond City in reference to the diamonds on the Cape Lookout Lighthouse. Across the sound is nearby Morehead City. The Diamond City Gala is held in Morehead City, and its name reflects the heritage of the region. The Diamond City Gala will be held October 17, 2020. The event takes place in Morehead City from 12-6 pm at MLK, Jr. Park which is located at the intersection of 10th and Arendell Street (behind the historic train depot).

Christmas in Downtown Morehead City 2020

8:30-11:30 am – Breakfast with Santa, hosted by Floyds 1921 Restaurant and Catering
1:00-5:00 pm – Chowder and Cheer (Ticketed event with downtown establishments. Participating businesses and ticket sale information coming soon)
5:00-6:00 pm – Santa and Mrs. Claus with hot chocolate and Christmas music at Jaycee Park (807 Shepard Street)
5:30 pm – Flotilla on the downtown MHC waterfront
6:00 pm – Morehead City Community Tree Lighting at Katherine Davis Park (601 Arendell Street)

On Saturday, December 12, the Town of Morehead City will host the annual Morehead Christmas Parade, beginning at 11:00 am.

11th Annual Chowder & Cheer

December 5, 2020 | 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

The 11th Annual Chowder and Cheer takes place with over 20 different restaurants participating from 1pm until 5pm. Guests are asked to vote for their favorite chowder, soup, chili or gumbo as they travel to each restaurant that’s participating. In addition to the downtown restaurants competing in Chowder and Cheer, restaurants that aren’t located within the downtown district will serve samples at participating shops and art galleries.

2020 Morehead City Christmas Parade

Come join the fun! Parade starts at 11 a.m. along Arendell Street in downtown Morehead City. Parade begins at 1700 Arendell Street and ends at 8th and Arendell Streets. Floats, community groups, bands, entertainment and, of course, Santa and his sleigh will be featured.

2020 Downtown Countdown

Downtown Countdown will bring family fun to the waterfront on New Year’s Eve. Join in the fun beginning at 5pm for activities for all ages. Enjoy watching the fire department drop the kid’s crab pot drop and children’s activities from 5pm- 6pm at Big Rock Landing. Local businesses and restaurants will provide activities and bands throughout the evening, please check individual websites for schedules. End the night at midnight with the big crab pot drop downtown and a fireworks show for all downtown to enjoy shot from Sugarloaf Island. For more information, visit

63rd Annual Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament

The 2021 Big Rock Tournament will take place June 11-19, 2021 in Morehead City. Among the largest and oldest sport fishing tournaments in the country, The Big Rock calls avid deep-sea fishermen to North Carolina’s Crystal Coast for a full week of angling and community celebration. Over the course of the last half-century, many boats have docked here, many tourists have gathered here, and many Morehead City natives have come and gone. Our mission has always stayed the same: to represent the sport fishing community as superbly as only Morehead City can!
