As part of Black History Month, the History Museum of Carteret County presents New Bern actor, author, and stage director Bill Hand who will perform a one-man show as Mark Twain, speaking on “The Peculiar Institution” of slavery. The performance will include excerpts from Twain’s autobiography, essays and short stories. His recollections will include his own memories of the slave days in Hannibal, Missouri, a “True Story” given to him by his sister-in-law’s cook, whose story takes place when she was a slave in New Bern, and a retelling of Uncle Dan’l’s favorite story, “The Golden Arm.” Longhorn Steakhouse will be providing a buffet lunch (lunch, beverage and taxes included): $16 / CCHS members $13; Presentation only: $8.50 / CCHS members $5.50.
