Come explore the Rachel Carson Reserve, a North Carolina Estuarine Research Reserve site named for the prominent biologist, and author of Silent Spring and The Sea Around Us. This protected area is set aside for research and is home to many diverse coastal habitats. Get up close and personal with some of the plants and animals of the Rachel Carson Reserve National Estuarine Research Site. Learn about the plants and animals that Rachel Carson studied during her time in Beaufort. A guided hike, led by Associate Museum Curator Benjamin Wunderly will take you through the different habitats found on Town Marsh and Bird Shoal. Not suitable for children under 12 yrs. old. Fee: $20. Advance registration required.
