Carteret Big Sweep | Fishing4Plastic Tournament

Carteret Big Sweep | Fishing4Plastic Tournament

Beaufort, NC | (252) 222-6365

October 21, 2017 | 7:00 am-4:00 pm

We invite you to join us for an adventurous and rewarding day of “Fishing 4 Plastic” to help clean up our ocean. We anticipate finding plastic and debris from the recent hurricanes traveling up from the south via the Gulf Stream.  Tournament participants will join teams and venture offshore to collect plastics from Sargassum (seaweed) mats near the Gulf Stream, weather permitting.

Boats will leave at 7:00 AM from their respective slips in the Beaufort area and return no later than 3:00 PM.  The teams will be dropped off at the public docks next to Front St. Grill at Stillwater.  Winning teams will be awarded prizes at the NC Maritime Museum across the street at 3:30 PM.  The prize categories are: Most Manmade Debris by Weight, Most Manmade Debris by Count, and Most Unusual Item.

Singer, song writer Jack Johnson is matching donations up to $2,500 through the Johnson-Ohanna Foundation “All at Once Initiative” to Plastic Ocean Project, Inc. to support the “Fishing4Plastic” Tournament on Saturday October 21, 2017.  Duke Environmental Law and Policy Clinic is also financially supporting this event which is co-sponsored by Crystal Coast Waterkeeper, NC Maritime Museum, and Carteret Big Sweep.

We are asking for a minimum donation of $25 to participate in the tournament. There are limited spots so sign up, select which team you would like to be on, and make your donation.  Your donation will count toward the Johnson-Ohana Foundation matched funding.
