Cape Lookout National Seashore welcomes anyone looking to escape the crowded stores on ‘Black Friday’ to participate in a park scavenger hunt as an opt-outside alternative.

The scavenger hunt will be an on-going event beginning at 9 A.M. – 2 P.M. on Friday, November 25, 2016, and takes place at the Cape Lookout National Seashore Beaufort Visitor Information Center (Beaufort Town Hall at 701 Front Street, Beaufort, NC).

Interested participants will have the opportunity to learn more about the park while completing their scavenger hunt sheets, which will lead them both inside and outside the Beaufort Town Hall building in a race for perfection in the fastest time.

Winners will be determined at the Beaufort Visitor Information Center by no later than 2 P.M., and prizes will be claimed at that time.  The top-three contestants will be based on the fastest and most correctly completed scavenger hunt entries.

1st Place – Tickets for four to either Shackleford Banks, or South Core Banks aboard an Island Express Ferry Service ferry & four Island Express Ferry Service t-shirts, sponsored by the National Park Service Concessionaire, Island Express Ferry Services, Inc.

2nd Place –Two tickets to the Christmas Candlelight Tour being held on Saturday, December 10, 2016 sponsored by the Beaufort Historical Society

3rd Place – A Cape Lookout National Seashore 50th Anniversary Christmas Ornament and a hand-made Cape Lookout National Seashore mug sponsored by Eastern National Bookstore

This event encourages visitors to take a break following the holidays and participate in an indoor/outdoor, family-friendly activity that will take place, rain or shine.  All participants will receive a commemorative National Park Service Centennial map, depicting each NPS site as well as Junior Ranger stickers.
