Brown Bag Gam: From Lightships to Light Towers

Brown Bag Gam: From Lightships to Light Towers

315 Front Street, Beaufort, NC 28516 | 252-728-7317

January 5, 2017 | 12:00 pm-1:00 pm

Pack a lunch for the Brown Bag Gam during your lunch hour and join Associate Curator Benjamin Wunderly for a talk about lightships and light towers. Shortly after the construction of several coastal lighthouses in North Carolina it was apparent that some locations would require additional warning lights. The dangerous shoals of Diamond, Lookout and Frying Pan proved difficult to navigate for many seafaring captains. Learn about the early attempts to mark these treacherous waters and what has happened to the latest towers. Gam is defined as a friendly conversation between whalers or to visit with another ship while at sea.  Free Admission.   No advance registration.  Walk-ins welcome. North Carolina Maritime Museum.
