Brown Bag Gam: Early Ferry Crossings in North Carolina

Brown Bag Gam: Early Ferry Crossings in North Carolina

315 Front Street, Beaufort, NC 28516 | 252-728-7317

April 26, 2017 | 12:00 pm-1:00 pm

Pack a lunch for the Brown Bag Gam during your lunch hour and join Associate Museum Curator Benjamin Wunderly for an informal discussion about crossing the water by ferry on North Carolina’s rivers and sounds. Most ferry operations in the state started as private enterprises but eventually became part of the transportation system that helps commerce and communities thrive. From early river ferries that were pulled up stream and let go to the other side to the large Sound Class ferries that traverse the Pamlico, we will give a glimpse into the history of this interesting mode of travel. Gam is defined as a friendly conversation between whalers or to visit with another ship while at sea.  Free Admission. No advance registration. Walk-ins welcome.  North Carolina Maritime Museum.
