If Arendell Street is the pulse of Morehead City, then the Promised Land is its heart. Located from approximately 9th to 15th Streets, this neighborhood came into being in the late 1800s, as fishermen from Shackleford Banks moved their families from the battered barrier island to the mainland and created a new home. Since then, this tight-knit community has helped build Morehead City into the flourishing fishing destination it is today.

Tucked into an unassuming strip of storefronts, Promise’ Land Market pays tribute to the community and history around it while bringing new life and charm to the emerging nightlife scene. Relatively new on the block, Promise’ Land quickly became a local and visitor favorite, offering craft beer, boutique wine and artisan meats and cheeses from around the world.

But this isn’t some “snooty” wine shop. Owner Janeen Russell opens her doors and her arms to all who pass by, and newcomers are immediately at ease in the warm, comfortable, and even cozy atmosphere, with lively conversation and friendly faces no matter where you look.

Pull up a stool at the uniquely designed bar, explore the menu and the inventory (you can’t miss it), and most importantly – relax. Much like the fishermen of days gone by, you’ve found your place in the Promised Land.
