Since it was founded in 1670, Charleston in South Carolina, or Charles Town as it was originally known, has witnessed some of America’s more noteworthy history.?Not surprisingly Charleston’s almost 350-year long history includes a significant interaction with numerous pirates including Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet.? In 1718 these notorious pirates and their fleet of ships blockaded the port of Charles Town demanding a ransom of not gold and jewels, but medicine!? During this hour long presentation David Moore, Curator of Nautical Archeology, will discuss this colorful and short period of pirating history of Charleston, SC. Free Admission.
