With skateboarding making a comeback from coast to coast, The Crystal Coast is home to one of the biggest – and newest – skateparks in Eastern North Carolina. The Atlantic Beach Skate Park opened to the public in July 2016 and has already hosted several events including competitions and block parties, but the lights are always on for locals and visitors to come show off their skills.
Logan Finch, owner of Finch’s Skate Shop, played a big role in the inception of the park and wanted to make sure it was open and inviting for all ages. The local skate shop owner gives the younger, local skaters lessons on a regular basis to teach everything from the basic skills of drop ins as well as park etiquette.
The park was built to feature something for every skater or bike rider including flat ground, boxes, rails, and one of the biggest drop-in bowls in the United States. Bleachers are provided so even if you’re not a wizard on wheels, you can still enjoy the the show. The skate park is open daily and free to the public from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. So, if you’re looking for a different kind of fun in the sun, the new AB Skate Park offers a fun, family-friendly atmosphere that is conveniently located next to the beach and with plans to expand the area with mini golf, a concession stand and more, it should be a must stop on your next family vacation.
