Nature is an amazing part of what makes the Crystal Coast great. From birds and butterflies, to crustaceans and gorgeous flora, all ages are sure to be astounded by nature's majesty on the shores, in wetlands and marshes, along riverbanks and on the land. One of the area's most prized natural reserves is the Rachel Carson Reserve named for the famed naturalist.

The N.C. Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores features a 300,000-gallon ocean tank plus exhibits and animals from across North Carolina. Mountain waterfalls, Piedmont rivers, coastal swamps, and offshore shipwrecks are some of the habitats. Three classrooms and a 150-seat auditorium can accommodate an expanded range of education programs and activities.
