Tatting Workshop at Beaufort Historic Site
Event Date: Sep. 3, 2009
Learn the skill of tatting, a form of lace made by looping and knotting a strand of heavy-duty thread on a small shuttle or needle in the Beaufort Historical Association Welcome Center, 130 Turner Street at 10:00 am. All are invited to learn about this historic craft. A $30 materials fee is to be paid in advance. Details: 252-728-5225.

Beaufort's 300th Anniversary Celebrations
Event Dates: Sep. 8-26, 2009
ALL EVENTS TAKE PLACE IN HISTORIC DOWNTOWN BEAUFORT AND THE MARITIME MUSEUM'S GALLANTS CHANNEL ANNEX (WEST BEAUFORT RD)

September 8-13: Homecoming Parade & Maritime Heritage Celebration

Starting Tuesday, September 8-Friday, September 11, there will be a Beaufort Boatbuilding Demonstration from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the North Carolina Maritime Museum Watercraft Center on Front Street in Beaufort; including a silent auction for the finished product. Also, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., there will be traditional boat rides from the Watercraft Center.

Wednesday, September 9: Author Jack Dudley speaks at the North Carolina Maritime Museum Auditorium (315 Front St., Beaufort) on one of his most popular books and the town that inspired it: "Beaufort: An Album of Memories."

Thursday, September 10: NC Maritime History Council Reception with presentation by area historian Sonny Williamson from 6-8 p.m. at the Watercraft Center.

Friday, September 11: Opening Ceremonies begin at 6 p.m. on the Historic Beaufort Waterfront. At 6:30 p.m. "Menhaden Memories" – educational and informational presentations by industry research experts featuring Beaufort residents who were involved in the industry that shaped a way of life in Beaufort – in Eure Hall at the Ann Street United Methodist Church. A concert follows at 7:30 p.m., featuring "Chanteymen."

Saturday, September 12: Battle of the Boats runs from 9-11 a.m. at the Maritime Museum's Gallants Channel Annex (entrance is off of West Beaufort Road). Homecoming Parade is from 1-3 p.m., along Front, Turner and Broad Streets. An Ice Cream Social at the Carteret County Courthouse grounds immediately follows the parade. At 4 p.m., return to Watercraft Center for the ceremony about the commemorative U.S. postal stamp – Beaufort's 300th anniversary. Also at 4 p.m. the Fishtowne Flotilla, honoring working boats, will parade past the Beaufort waterfront. From 5:30-7:30 p.m., there will be Reception & Awards at the Watercraft Center.

September 24-26: Homecoming Picnic & Street Dance, Concerts

Thursday, September 24: Dine In Fishtowne with Beaufort's First Citizens is at 6 p.m. at the Maritime Museum Auditorium. This is a potluck dinner featuring long-time Beaufort residents as they share memories of growing up in Beaufort: "Here's the Church, Here's the Steeple: Beaufort's most intriguing people."

Friday, September 25: Outdoor concerts on Front Street from 4:30-11 p.m. (The Embers will be playing from 8-11 p.m.) A Community Blessing on the Beaufort waterfront is at 6 p.m. A Beaufort Outdoor Picnic by-the-Sea is from 4:30-7 p.m. Bring your own food or patronize Beaufort restaurants; enjoy the 300th Birthday Cake and the Big Drink.

Saturday, September 26: Concerts performed by Beaufort churches and choirs on the Beaufort waterfront from 2-6 p.m. Closing ceremonies at 6 p.m. also on the Beaufort waterfront. The Shrimp Boat Parade is at 6 p.m., from Taylors Creek to Gallants Channel. More concerts from 6:30-10 p.m. by homegrown artists on the Beaufort Waterfront. "Shrimp-A-Roo: A Celebration of Local Ocean's Bounty" begins at 7 p.m. at Gallants Channel. (Please note, the Shrimp-A-Roo is a fundraiser for the historic Ward Hancock Customs House – tickets are $100 each. Contact the Beaufort Woman's Club at 728-3988.)

Maritime Week
Event Dates: Sep. 8-11, 2009
Enjoy boat building demonstrations in the Watercraft Center between 10 AM and 4 PM. Carteret County native Heber Guthrie will build a boat in the traditional style. Traditional Boat Rides on spritsail skiffs available all week from the museum's Watercraft Center. Free to the public. 10 AM to 2 PM. Sign up at the museum's Watercraft Center.

Carteret Writers Gets Fishy
Event Date: Sep. 8, 2009
Nonfiction author Dail Bridges will address Carteret Writers on September 8 at Golden Corral in Morehead City. The "Dutch treat" lunch begins at 11:15; the program starts at noon. No program fee. Anyone interested in writing is welcome.

Bridges will read an excerpt from her book about her experience on Japanese and Russian fishing trawlers, discuss how she came to write the book, and describe her experience with publication and a New York agent.

Emerald Isle Summer 4 X 4 Beach Volleyball Series

Emerald Isle Parks and Recreation presents the last 4 v 4 Beach Volleyball Tournament on September 12th, 2009.

Crystal Coast Super Boat Grand Prix

Get ready for the fastest boats on the water at the 5th Annual Crystal Coast Super Boat Grand Prix, September 17-19, 2010!

Super Boats capable of speeds in excess of 120mph will take to the Intracoastal Waterway during this Super Boat International & American Power Boat Association sanctioned race weekend.

The Circus is Coming to Town!
Event Dates: Sep. 18-19, 2009
The circus is coming to the Crystal Coast Fairgrounds in Newport, NC on Friday September 18th and Saturday September 19th. Two shows will on Friday at 5:30 and 7:30 . The Shows on Saturday will be at 3:30 and 5:30.

All kids 5.00 and under free for all shows. Adult tickets will be 14.oo at the door. Advance adult tickets reduced to 12.00 can be purchased starting Monday August 24th at 10:00 am.

1st Annual Pyrate Ride and Run

The events will include a Bicycle Ride beginning at 8:30 a.m., followed by a one mile fun run/walk event at 8:45 a.m. which will take place along historic Front Street. After the one mile event, a certified 5K run/walk event is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.

2nd Annual Fall Family Fun Day
Event Date: Sep. 20, 2009
The whole family can be part of constructing life-size scarecrows that they can take home for their own fall decorations. Guests will learn a little history about some of the prominent people in Carteret County while having a lot of fun.

The cost is $10 per scarecrow and seating is limited. Advance reservations are required. The History Place is located at the corner of 11th and Arendell Streets in downtown Morehead City.

"Dine in Fishtowne with Beaufort's First Citizens"

The North Carolina Maritime Museum will again become "the place to be" on the fourth Thursday of every month through September from 6:00PM to 7:30PM as the Town's Tricentennial Team invites you to "Dine in Fishtowne with Beaufort's First Citizens".

Sponsored by First Citizens Bank, the event is a community potluck dinner that features oral history panels comprised of long-time Beaufort residents. The price of admission is simply a covered dish to share with others who will come to hear about Beaufort's tremendous history from those who have shaped it and experienced it first-hand.

Carteret County Numismatic Coin Show
