On land, the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores brings families face to face with sharks, sea turtles and other dwellers of the deep, some of whom swim through a replica of Blackbeard's sunken pirate ship, the Queen Anne's Revenge. History comes alive at Civil War-era Fort Macon, the North Carolina Maritime Museum, with artifacts from the time pirates ruled these shores, and the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum, where skilled artisans carve their detailed decoys.
