Tea with Lucky
Event Date: Feb. 28, 2010
Event Time(s): 2:30 pm
Location: The History Place, 1008 Arendell Street, Morehead City
TEA WITH LUCKY - Museum Educator, Carol Smith, will lead the program and guests will be treated to tea and finger foods while learning the history of North Carolina's state dog, the Plott Hound. Lucky, a Plott Hound, was rescued by Libby Bagby, a teacher coming home from her job at North Surry High School in Mt. Airy, NC. Even though Libby had five other dogs at home, she felt a connection to her rescued dog. Little did she know how helping this dog was about to change the "plot" of her life.
Upon taking Lucky to the vet, Libby she was informed that the breed of the canine she had was recognized as the state dog of North Carolina. Amazed at the news that North Carolina had a state dog, Libby wondered how many other Tar Heels were aware of this fact of North Carolina history.
Libby's presentation is entitled "Staying on Track with Lucky's Plott." In it she explains the history and physical characteristics of the breed, shares information about the Waynesville, NC, family that is credited with originating the Plott Hound, and explains the legislative process involved for an object to become a state symbol.
Libby and Lucky travel across the United States visiting schools and groups.
Adults and children, (ages 5 to 10), are invited. The cost is $10 for adult and one child. Each additional child is $2. Call for reservations or more information 252-247-7533 x 106 or 101.
