Magic Act at the Eastern Carolina Showcase Theater

Magical Mayhem show is a fun filled magic extravaganza with over 50 years combined experience. The show is fun for all ages. Magicians Bryan Sanders, Billy Hardy and Terry Morris bring magic and mayhem to the beach.

The show takes place at the Eastern North Carolina Showcase Theater on Wednesday nights through Labor Day. $12.50 admission includes drinks and a popcorn. Ages 5 and under free.

Spend your Labor Day Holiday at Atlantic Beach! We are excited to bring a great line-up of free family events next week to the Boardwalk at the Circle in Atlantic Beach.

Wednesday, September 1: Meet at the Boardwalk's Seaside Cinema to watch "The Incredibles", starting around 8:15 p.m.

Friday, September 3: The Town's Bluegrass at the Beach free concert spotlights The Hotwires band at 5:30 p.m., followed by a viewing of "Monsters vs Aliens" around 8:15 p.m.

"Mayhem at the Museum"- Murder Mystery Dinner

The North Carolina Maritime Museum in Beaufort becomes a crime scene on Friday, Sept. 3, for "Mayhem at the Museum: Murder Mystery Dinner."

The evening begins with a "Mocktail Hour," followed by an introduction to the live game. Then, meet with the suspects and try your hand at interrogation.
Leave the crime scene to compare notes with your team over dinner and dessert, catered by Clawson's 1905
Restaurant. At the end of the evening, find out if you are a true sleuth.

The event is $30 per person, $50 per couple. Space is limited and advance registration is required.

Morehead City Parks & Recreation Concert Series

The Morehead City Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor a summer long concert series beginning Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend.

The concerts are scheduled each Saturday evening from 7:00-8:30 PM at Jaycee Park, 9th and Shepard Street in Morehead City. These performances are free and open to the public.

Student Night at the Museum

The North Carolina Maritime Museum in Beaufort invites college and graduate students to take part in "Student Night at the Museum" on Thursday, Sept. 2. The free event begins at 5 p.m.
Students will get to network while learning about Museum volunteer and membership opportunities. "We hope they'll be inspired by the work we do here through programs and exhibits," said Museum Education Curator Allison Besch. "The Friends of the Museum in Beaufort are offering a new annual membership level for them, $10 or 10 hours of volunteer service."
Refreshments and light hors d'oeuvres will be served.
Later in the evening, the Museum offers a special sunset sail courtesy of Lookout Cruises. Reservations for the ride can be made during the event.

"Lunch with a Dash of History"

The popular "Lunch with a Dash of History" series with storyteller Rodney Kemp is held at noon on Fridays at the History Place and the Fall series begins Friday, Sept.10th.

The topics and dates will be: Friday, Sept. 10th - World War II; Friday, Sept.24th - Salter Path and Mrs. Alice Hoffman; Friday, Oct. 8th - The Lost Colony; Friday, Oct. 22nd - Cedar Island and Friday, Dec 10th - Christmas Stories.

Tickets are $10 for lunch and only $4 without lunch. Scrapbooking Workshop

2 v 2 Beach Volleyball Tournaments
Event Date: Sep. 11, 2010
Tournament location: Western Ocean Regional Access, Islander Drive, Emerald Isle.

This is an "open gender" series and players must be at least 16 years old. Pre-registration is required (no game day registration). Team fee is $55 per team with prize money going to the top two teams (70% to first place; 30% to second place).

Teams must bring their own ball and will act as officials when not playing. Note: officiating may be required after elimination. There are no rain dates and refunds will be issued for bad weather. FIVB/EI beach rules apply.

"Cinema-by-the-Sea" in Beaufort

Tickets available at the gate, $10 per carload or $2.00 per individual walk-in

In the event of inclement weather and the presentation has to be cancelled, it will be re-scheduled for the following Friday. Movie concessions will be sold.

AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day
Event Date: Sep. 11, 2010
Event Time(s): 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
Location: Beaufort Ace Home Center parking lot, 1511 Live Oak St. (Huntley Plaza), Beaufort. Admission is free.

This promises to be a great family-dog fun day with interesting dog contests, rescue dogs for adoption and dog demonstrations, including agility, recall, herding and more. Many vendors will have animal-related booths. Micro-chipping, vaccinations, nail clipping and CGC testing will be available. Raffles and auctions will be held throughout the day. Carteret County Sheriff Asa Buck will be the master of ceremonies. All sociable dogs are welcome.

Beach Jive After Five

"Third Thursday" Free Music Concerts

Crystal Coast Super Boat Grand Prix

Get ready for the fastest boats on the water at the 5th Annual Crystal Coast Super Boat Grand Prix, September 17-19, 2010!

Super Boats capable of speeds in excess of 120mph will take to the Intracoastal Waterway during this Super Boat International & American Power Boat Association sanctioned race weekend.

"Military Fun Day"

The Chamber of Commmerce Military Affairs Committee is sponsoring the annual "Military Fun Day" for active duty service members and their spouses or dates on Friday, September 17, at Harkers Island.

About 120 military people from Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, Coast Guard Sector North Carolina and the Amy Reserve unit in Morehead City are expected to participate. Activities will be based at the Cape Lookout National Seashore Visitor Center and the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum & Heritage Center. Best Buy #1451 is the Presenting Sponsor.

Local ferries will provide transportation for the attendees to visit Cape Lookout. The luncheon will feature grilled pork chops prepared by Murphy-Brown, complimentary side dishes and drinks from White Swan Express of Atlantic Beach and home-made desserts donated by local church members in the Down East communities.

Reenactments at Fort Macon State Park
Event Date: Sep. 18, 2010
The reenactment is done by the 1st NC Volunteers/11th Regiment, a living history group that has been doing programs at the park since 1977. They come three times a year and do a living history weekend different programs ongoing throughout the weekend like: cannon firing, musket firing demonstrations, flags of the Confederacy, womens' clothing and dress of the 1860s, uniform talks, soldier life in the 1860s and a mock attack on the fort by "Union" troops to show how the fort would defend against land attack.

Emerald Isle's Fifth Annual Day4Kids

Bringing adults and children of all ages together for a fun-filled day of vendors, activities, games, face painting and more! Celebrate our children by spending meaningful time with them.

Carteret County Officer Down Memorial Ride

Sign-in and registration begins at 10 a.m. at Carteret Community College in Morehead City. The ride (approximately 80 miles) begins at 11 a.m., with a cookout to follow.

4th Annual Flounder Surf Fishing Tournament

Free registration (August 28-September 22) and excellent prizes! All flounder must be caught by fishing on foot (surf, pier, inlet, sound) from Fort Macon to Emerald Isle. "Horse Sense and Survival"

Ranger program offered by Cape Lookout National Seashore. Call (252) 728-2250 for reservations

The wild horses on Shackleford Banks are fascinating to observe but may be difficult to find. Join a Ranger for a day-long walking trip to find horses and watch their behavior. The park will arrange transportation by local ferries, there will be a charge for this ride. If you have your own boat, call the park for reservations and meeting locations. There is no charge for the walking program. Come prepared for a day in the sun and for walking through dunes in deep sand. Comfortable walking shoes that can get wet & muddy are a must. Bring water, lunch/snacks, bug repellent, sunscreen, a sun hat, binoculars, and camera with telephoto lens.

3rd Annual Fall Family Fun Day

On Sunday, September 26th at 2 p.m. kids and parents are invited to the 3rd Annual Fall Family Fun Day at the History Place.

The whole family can be part of constructing life-size scarecrows that they can take home for their own fall decorations. Museum Educator, Carol Smith, will lead the event. Each scarecrow will be created for notable people of Carteret County including John Motley Morehead, Morehead City's founder; Emeline Pigott, confederate spy, or even Blackbeard the pirate. Guests will learn a little history about some of the prominent people in Carteret County while having a lot of fun.

Guests should bring a pair of denim pants (jeans), a flannel shirt and a pillow case, or for a small charge, the museum will supply them. The History Place will also furnish the straw, stuffing, backbone boards, nails, hammers, rope and pins to hold the scarecrows together. Light refreshments will be served.

The cost is $10 per scarecrow and seating is limited. Advance reservations are required. The History Place is located at the corner of 11th and Arendell Streets in downtown Morehead City.
